John Grove Invitation
By Lon Lancaster

On Saturday, Jan 31, 2009, 1- 3 PM, many of John Grove's friends gathered with his family to celebrate his remarkable life.

The celebration was held at the Soundside Club at Hurlburt Field, FL.
In keeping with the life and ways of John, this was an informal affair, and a joyous occasion. We had a bar set up, and hors d'oeuvres to eat. John loved a party if it was a good one, so we did our best to meet that standard. The day was one filled with many wonderful memories of our short time with our friend. He touched many, many people across the globe, and there was several hundred of us sharing our favorite stories about this most interesting and special man.

John was interred at Arlington National Cemetery Spring 2009, fulfilling a long-standing wish of his. He was a highly decorated combat veteran, and finding his final resting place with many other great American heroes in our nation's capitol seems most appropriate.

Much of John's volunteer work is being carried on by others, but not nearly at the pace or back-breaking level John somehow managed. His work with those in need in the U.S., in Honduras, in Thailand and other locales will be a legacy that would have made him most happy. His granddaughter, Heather, inherited much of John's special love to reach out to others, and she will be heading a newly-formed "John Grove Memorial Fund" to carry this compassionate commando's work to the many he loved to help.

I am a Commando
As my brothers and sisters before me, I am proud to step into history as a member of the Air Force Special Operations Command. I will walk with pride with my head held high, my heart and attitude will show my allegiance to God, country and comrades. When unable to walk another step, I will walk another mile. With freedom my goal, I will step into destiny with pride and the Air Force Special Operations Command.
