Col James B. Connors, USAF, Ret., Treasurer
Colonel James B. Connors retired 1 July 2002 after more than 30 years commissioned service as the Director of Operations at HQ Air Force SpecialOperations Command. Colonel Connors was commissioned through Officer Training School in February, 1972. He received his B.A. from Manhattan College, NYC, NY and an M.P.A from Golden Gate University, San Francisco CA. He received a BA degree in Urban Studies where he learned how to keep cities healthy and vibrant and retired as an operational Fire Control Officer (FCO) in the AC-130H where he was practiced winning urban warfare battles. He flew C-130s from Clark AB in the Philippines, T-43’s from Mather AFB in California and AC-130Hs from Hurlburt Fld Florida. During his career, Colonel Connors served as a United Nations Observer in Beirut and in Israel, an Air Command and Staff College instructor at Maxwell AFB in Alabama, the commander of the 16 SOS (the only gunship squadron in the Active Duty Air Force), the 16th OPS group deputy and commander) and the deputy commander of a joint command (SOCCENT) in Manama Bahrain. Colonel Connors deployed for Operation Just Cause, Desert Shield/Storm, Deny Flight, Provide Comfort, Desert Fox and too many more to remember. His decorations include: the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Bronze Star, Air Medal and the meritorious Service Medal. He is also a proud member of the Air Commando Hall of Fame.
